Community History and Humanities Lab Cohorts Receive Project Approval and Funding

After months of collaborative learning and project development, NJCH’s latest Community History and Humanities Lab cohorts have reached a major milestone: their project proposals have been approved for NJCH funding and are set to launch this month.

Kicking Off the 2024 Community History Cohort

April 9, 2024

Community History 2024 is now underway! This past March, the 9 organizations in the cohort met twice at the Twin Rivers Branch Library in West Windsor to learn all about community-engaged public history.

The Community History Program is often just the launching point for organizations that want to do community-based history work. Many organizations receive funding to continue their work after the program’s end, expanding the scope, detail, or impact of their original work.

June Update: The Value of Community-Engaged History

On June 5, 2023, Community History program staff and previous participants took a trip to Grounds for Sculpture for the New Jersey Association of Museums annual conference to present a panel on the value of community-engaged history as a tool for museums.

April Update: 2023 Cohort Diving Into Community-based Public History

May 8, 2023

The 2023 cohort’s participants all come from non-history-based organizations, including Haddonfield Public Library, Indian American Club, Preserve Shady Rest Committee, Union Public Library, and Washington Township Public Library. After one-on-one meetings with program staff and two hybrid intensive workshops in March and April, this cohort is diving into community-based public history!

Five organizations join NJ Humanities Community History program

Five local organizations have been accepted into the next cohort of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities’ Community History Program, in which they will work closely with their communities to learn about and share their untold stories.
