New Jersey Council for the Humanities Accessibility Statement

Updated: March 2024

At the New Jersey Council for the Humanities (NJCH), we are dedicated to ensuring that our programs, services, and information are accessible to all people. We firmly believe that accessibility is a core value that promotes inclusivity and fairness in our society.

Our commitment to accessibility extends to every aspect of our organization. This includes continuously improving our website to adhere to widely accepted accessibility standards, ensuring that it is usable and navigable for individuals with disabilities.

Furthermore, we collaborate closely with our partner venues to guarantee that all programming, whether organized by NJCH or our program partners, is accessible to people with disabilities. This involves proactive measures to remove physical barriers and provide accommodations as needed. Most of our events and programs are held at third-party venues. Please contact us in advance with any accessibility needs or concerns.

In addition to physical accessibility, we recognize the importance of linguistic, cultural, and economic inclusivity. We are dedicated to the continual review and enhancement of our processes and guidelines for initiatives such as grants, sponsorships, and participatory programs to ensure they are accessible to the broad population. Our aim is to make these resources user-friendly, comprehensible to individuals with varying levels of English proficiency and cultural backgrounds, and attainable for organizations with varying levels of staffing, technological expertise, and financial resources.

Our public programs are offered at no cost, and our grant and sponsorship funds are targeted to efforts that make the humanities more accessible to the people of New Jersey. At NJCH, we are committed to fostering an environment where everyone, regardless of ability, language, or background, can fully engage with and benefit from our programs and services. We believe that by prioritizing accessibility, we uphold our mission of advancing public humanities and strengthening communities across New Jersey.

Website accessibility

With the strong belief that every person has the right to live with dignity, equality, comfort and independence, NJCH strives to ensure that our services, including our web-based resources, are accessible to people with disabilities.

Accessibility features on Njhumanities.org

Our website, njhumanities.org, makes available the UserWay Website Accessibility Widget that is powered by a dedicated accessibility server. The software allows njhumanities.org to improve its compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1), ATAG 2.0, ADA, & Section 508 requirements.

Enabling the Accessibility Menu

The njhumanities.org accessibility menu can be enabled either by hitting the tab key when the page first loads or by clicking the accessibility menu icon that appears on the corner of the page. After triggering the accessibility menu, please wait a moment for the accessibility menu to load in its entirety.

Disclaimer

New Jersey Council for the Humanities continues its efforts to constantly improve the accessibility of its site and services in the belief that it is our collective moral obligation to allow seamless, accessible and unhindered use also for those of us with disabilities.

In an ongoing effort to continually improve and remediate accessibility issues, we also regularly scan njhumanities.org with UserWay's Accessibility Scanner to identify and fix every possible accessibility barrier on our site. Despite our efforts to make all pages and content on njhumanities.org fully accessible, some content may not have yet been fully adapted to the strictest accessibility standards. This may be a result of not having found or identified the most appropriate technological solution.
