Ubuntu Cultural Pavilion, Inc.

Website: https://www.ucpavilion.org/

Grant Round: 2024 Round 2
Award: Incubation / $9,280
Purpose: To support a “citizen archivists” program offering community-based educational opportunities regarding traditional archival and oral history practices.

Ubuntu Cultural Pavilion logo

The Ubuntu Cultural Pavilion “Citizen Archivists” project aims to introduce and demystify traditional archival and oral history practices by providing accessible and hands-on educational opportunities. Through a combination of training sessions and targeted community-centered research initiatives, community participants will gain practical experience in archival research, interviewing techniques, and oral history preservation to further engage the community in the importance of sharing and preserving our rich history.

The “citizen archivists” will further deepen our connections to and with the community. The project will serve as a valuable educational resource and training tool for the community, institutions and other grass-root organizations. Ubuntu Cultural Pavilion seeks to develop the initiative with a focus on the contributions of veterans as the pilot project.
