Purpose: To support “Be Still My Soul,” a site-immersive dance performance project built on the rich and complex history of the Montclair History Center’s Crane House and Historic YWCA.
The Moving Architects’ “Be Still My Soul” is a site-immersive dance performance exploring the history of the Montclair History Center’s Crane House. This project will delve into the rich and complex history of the site, including the narratives of the White women, Irish indentured servants, and African American women who lived there. Through research and artistic interpretation, “Be Still My Soul” will examine themes of community, identity, and resilience, inviting audiences to reflect on their own connections to history and place. This project seeks to foster a deeper understanding of the past’s impact on the present through a humanities lens.
