Grant Round: 2025 Round 1
Award: Incubation / $15,000
Purpose: To support research for a future exhibition on the use of poetry as a form of creative expression, public history, and activism in Southern New Jersey.
The South Jersey Culture & History Center of Stockton University will research and develop an exhibition exploring local poetry as a tool for public history and activism. Highlighting Atlantic City’s vibrant creative community, the project will examine how poetry has amplified social movements and drawn attention to injustice. The research will also support educational materials, including a catalog and pamphlets. The exhibition will connect South Jersey’s history to broader state and national narratives, focusing on immigration, women’s activism, the Civil Rights movement, African American history, and LGBTQIA+ activism.
