Purpose: To support the creation of educational workshops involving the public in efforts to preserve cemeteries and burial grounds throughout the state.
Preservation NJ will launch a series of hands-on preservation workshops at cemeteries across the state, providing continuing education for professionals and the public. These workshops will highlight the historic integrity of cemeteries as valuable repositories of local history, showcasing cultural, social, and architectural developments. Participants will gain essential conservation skills, learning techniques to clean, repair, and maintain gravestones to ensure their durability.
The program will foster community involvement by encouraging local engagement and stewardship, motivating residents to take an active role in preserving their heritage. Additionally, the workshops will offer educational insights into genealogy and cultural memory while promoting sustainable preservation practices to support the long-term viability of historic sites.
