Purpose: To support the development of an exploration of Indigenous women’s roles in preserving cultural and spiritual well-being in New Jersey Native communities.
This project highlights Indigenous women’s role in preserving cultural and spiritual well-being in NJ Native communities.
By exploring intergenerational knowledge transmission via oral histories and on-site ethnographic inquiry, the project aims to gather narratives, notes, photographs, and recordings that will (a) reflect how women guide younger generations toward continuity with their Native identities, histories, and languages that are threatened with erasure; and (b) provide resources to tribes for determining how best to turn this knowledge into future community learning materials and opportunities.
