Grant Round: 2025 Round 1
Award: Incubation / $7,000
Purpose: To support the Poetry Heals Program, a series of literary workshops for physicians/clinicians in hospitals and students in medical schools designed to build empathy and understanding.
CavanKerry Press’s Poetry Heals program offers cathartic poetry workshops for healthcare professionals and medical students, helping them process the emotional challenges of their work. Using CKP’s LaurelBooks series, which explores health and healing through literature, the program provides a safe space for reflection and connection. It also enhances observation, listening, and communication skills—key to improving patient care. The initiative will include pilot projects, outreach efforts, facilitator training, and resource development to expand its impact.
The project builds off of work completed under a prior NJCH grant.
