Website: https://www.asburyamp.org/
Grant Round: 2025 Round 1
Award: Action / $15,000
Purpose: To support the expansion of “Curating and Sharing History from the Heart of Asbury Park’s African American Community” archive and oral history.
Asbury Park Music Foundation (AP-AMP) is working to restore the Turf Club, a historic music venue in Asbury Park’s “Little Harlem” district, and turn it into a community music and cultural center. AP-AMP has been documenting the history of Springwood Avenue and the Turf Club since 2017, conducting oral history interviews with musicians and community members to preserve their stories. Recognizing the value of these firsthand accounts, AP-AMP prioritizes making this historical information accessible to the public accurately and with integrity.
