Freedom Summer Commemoration Featured in the New York Times

Millions of readers experienced the historic events of the 1964 Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City, 60 years after the fact, through the pages of the New York Times.

The New Jersey Council for the Humanities and the Mississippi Humanities Council teamed up to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the events of Freedom Summer with the unveiling of a marker on the Mississippi Freedom Trail and a panel discussion with veterans of the movement. Those events were reported in numerous media outlets, including the Times. 

We’re honored to have played a role in sharing and preserving this vital history of Fannie Lou Hamer, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, and the courageous fight for equality. Below you can find links to the coverage of the Times and other outlets:
