Applications for Community History and Prime Time Reading 2026 are open!

October 1, 2025

The application processes are open for organizations seeking to participate in the next cohorts of NJCH’s Community History or Prime Time Family Reading programs.

Community History

Since 2021, NJCH has helped over 40 organizations create community history projects through the program’s cohort learning sessions, individual coaching, and startup funding.

NJCH provides $1,000 in funding up front to support participation. Participating organizations are eligible to apply for additional funding up to $5,000 to support the project they develop over the course of the program.

The 2026 program will focus on America’s 250th anniversary and its legacy. This does NOT require a focus on the Revolutionary period exclusively, but rather on how we have continuously over the past 250 years strived to “form a more perfect union.”

Read more about the program, review the application guidelines, and RSVP for our November 6 virtual info session at https://njhumanities.org/programs/community-history/. The application window will close December 9.

Prime Time Family Reading

Prime Time Family Reading is a national program serving 6- to 10-year-old kids and their families. Participating families build early literacy skills, engage in critical thinking, and connect with each other through literature and discussion.

NJCH launched a pilot with two libraries in 2025 and is opening the program to libraries across New Jersey for 2026.

The national Prime Time Reading program received a 2025 Library of Congress Literacy Award in recognition of its demonstrated impact on improving literacy in the United States.

Read more about the program, review the application guidelines, and RSVP for our October 23 virtual info session at https://njhumanities.org/programs/prime-time-reading/. The application window will close November 20, 2025.
