Application Open for Clemente Course in the Humanities: Free College-level Coursework for Veterans

Offered by Atlantic Cape Community College, the 12-week Clemente Course in the Humanities is free and open to veterans regardless of discharge status or educational attainment

Veterans of the U.S. military residing in New Jersey can now enroll in a free, 12-week college-level course in the humanities taught by instructors at Atlantic Cape Community College.

A partnership of Atlantic Cape, the New Jersey Council for the Humanities, and the Clemente Course in the Humanities, the class will explore themes of war and reconciliation. It is free and open to all veterans, regardless of discharge status and educational attainment. A high school diploma or GED is not required.

The Clemente Course in the Humanities has reached over 10,000 students around the world.

“Veterans have earned this opportunity,” said Carin Berkowitz, Ph.D., executive director of NJCH. “By exploring their experiences through literature, history, and philosophy, participants in this course can further their education and careers, become effective advocates for themselves and their families, and better engage in cultural and political life.”

Course Details

  • The course is offered free of charge
  • All books and course materials are provided for free
  • Class meetings are held on Zoom, with optional in-person field trips planned
  • Dates: Thursdays, 6-7:30 PM, February 5-May 14, 2026

The Clemente Course in the Humanities, a national program now in its third decade, has reached over 10,000 students around the world. The program has partnered with NJCH on courses since 2022.
