"Voices and Votes" Exhibit

Thanks to all of our community college host sites and visitors for making the NJ tour of Voices and Votes a great success!

"Voices and Votes: Democracy in America" wrapped up its tour of New Jersey on January 6, 2023.

Voices and Votes is based on a major exhibition at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History called American Democracy: A Great Leap of Faith.

The exhibit includes historical and contemporary photos, educational and archival videos, interactive short games, historical objects like campaign souvenirs, voter memorabilia, and protest material—and more!

HOST SITES

Voices and Votes: Democracy in America, 2022

Community colleges are democracy's colleges: they enrich civic and economic life and drive national conversations about opportunity, education, and access. That tradition is why NJCH has chosen to partner with community colleges across the state to host Voices and Votes.

The six participating colleges were selected through a competitive application process. Each site will host the exhibit for 4-6 weeks and feature additional democracy-related local programming while the exhibition is on display at their location.

About Museum on Main Street

Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES)

The Voices and Votes exhibition is part of the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street (MoMS), a program that engages local audiences to consider important topics that affect us all. The exhibitions are designed to engage communities and become a catalyst for conversation about life in America. For more information about MoMS, click here.

How It's Made

The effort to bring a Smithsonian-quality exhibit into everyday spaces requires remarkable collaboration among the federal, statewide, and local organizations involved! Take a peek behind the scenes to see the exhibit take shape at Rowan College at Burlington County.
