Award to recognize significant impact through community-focused humanities work
(Camden, NJ) – The New Jersey Council for the Humanities is pleased to invite nominations for the 2025 Stanley N. Katz Prize for Excellence in Public Humanities.
The Katz Prize, which was inaugurated in 2022, is awarded annually to an organization for a recent project that has demonstrated significant engagement with and impact through community-focused public humanities work in New Jersey. It is named for Stanley N. Katz, Ph.D., former NJCH board chair and Princeton professor. Katz, the longest-serving NJCH board member and a gubernatorial board appointment, has been an influential champion for the public humanities and the work of state humanities councils throughout his career.
To be eligible for nomination, an organization must:
- Have completed the nominated project between 2020 and 2025 (i.e., within the last five years).
- Be a New Jersey-based nonprofit organization or government entity.
Self-nominations are welcome. Applications for the 2025 award must be received by July 30, 2025. All nominations and supporting materials will be evaluated by a committee of distinguished peer reviewers with expertise in the public humanities.
The recipient of the Prize, which includes a $5,000 award from NJCH, will be selected and notified in the Fall of 2025. The selection committee may also designate up to two honorable mentions.
