Know of a recent public humanities project that deserves our $5,000 prize?
The New Jersey Council for the Humanities is pleased to invite nominations for the 2026 Stanley N. Katz Prize for Excellence in Public Humanities.
The Katz Prize, which has been awarded annually since 2022, recognizes a recent project that demonstrates significant engagement with and impact through community-focused public humanities work in NJ.
It is named for Stanley N. Katz, Ph.D., former NJCH board chair and Princeton professor. Katz has been an influential champion for the public humanities and the work of state humanities councils throughout his career.
Nomination Guidelines
To be eligible for nomination, the project has to have happened between 2021 and 2026 and been implemented by a New Jersey-based nonprofit or government entity.
Anyone may nominate a project, and nominators may recommend any project that they believe best exemplifies the purpose of the Prize and fulfills its eligibility requirements. Self-nominations are welcome.
Nominations must be submitted by January 14, 2027. All nominations and supporting materials will be evaluated by a committee of distinguished peer reviewers with expertise in the public humanities.
The recipient of the Prize, which includes a $5,000 award from NJCH, will be selected and notified in February of 2027. The selection committee may also designate honorable mentions, which will also be publicly recognized by NJCH.
