The New Weis Center

The New Weis Center is connecting environmental history with community resilience, using the diverse stories of people who protected Ringwood’s nature to inspire today’s youth to take hope and action in the future.
The New Weis Center operates on a property with a history of environmental protection, including the legacy of Camp Midvale, a site founded by immigrants with a progressive reputation for welcoming all. They hope to use local history to help young people overcome “eco-anxiety” by sharing stories of environmental success and community action.
The Center’s developmental goal is to expand its school field trips and public programs by learning how to tell more meaningful, inclusive stories. They are particularly interested in incorporating the history of the local Native American population and using digital media to reach those who cannot visit the site in person.
