A look at immigration from a historical perspective may further a deeper understanding of why it’s such a complex issue. From the birth of the nation to present day, immigration has always sparked debate in the political and public arena. In this program, an overview of the history of immigration, perceptions about assimilation, and an exploration of tolerance will offer participants the opportunity to learn more about today’s immigration headlines and policy.

Frank Argote-Freyre is an Associate Professor at Kean University. He earned his Ph.D. from Rutgers University in Latin American History. Frank received a NJCH Honor Book designation in 2007. Also, he was an elector for President Obama in 2012.
