Learn about heirloom varieties\, modern hybrids and the folklore attached to this fruit. \nAbout the speaker: \nJudith Krall–Russo has enjoyed a lifelong love of foods\, especially embracing the rich agriculture of her home state – New Jersey. DESCRIPTION:The Mahwah Museum\, an NJCH grantee\, is hosting Les Paul’s 110th Birthday Celebration Tribute Concert\, on Saturday\, June 7\, 2025\, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Ramapo College of New Jersey’s H-Wing Auditorium\, 505 Ramapo Valley Road\, Mahwah\, New Jersey. \nThis exciting event honors Mahwah’s own legendary innovator and music icon\, Les Paul\, whose groundbreaking inventions and artistry forever changed the landscape of music. The concert will feature three dynamic acts\, DnA\, Ed Laub Quartet\, and Tom and Sandy Doyle\, celebrating Les Paul’s enduring legacy. \nnA (Dani Zanoni and Alex Kerssen): This acoustic duo from North Jersey delivers heartfelt performances blending vocals and acoustic guitar with hits from the ‘60s to today\, alongside original songs by Dani. DnA brings a fresh\, contemporary vibe to the celebration of Les Paul’s timeless influence. \nEd Laub Quartet: A respected local talent\, Ed Laub brings smooth vocals and masterful 7-string guitar work to the stage. Known for his work alongside jazz great Bucky Pizzarelli\, Laub offers interpretations of the Great American Songbook and Brazilian classics\, carrying the torch of the jazz guitar tradition Les Paul helped to define. SUMMARY:Making Montclair Home: Story Sharing and Writing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Montclair has long been a welcoming community for people from many cultures\, countries\, and walks of life. Collecting the stories of moving to our town is an important way to record and reflect on the changing fabric of our community. \nAs part of the Montclair Public Library’s Community History Project\, supported by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities’ Community History program with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities\, this workshop invites participants to tell their own families’ stories\, focusing on the emotional and practical realities of settling in Montclair over the last several decades. \nThe workshop will begin with casual conversations about what brought us or our families to Montclair. We’ll share stories of first impressions\, friends and neighbors\, jobs\, homes\, and other memories of settling in town. Then we will turn to the page\, writing down those stories to preserve them for ourselves and posterity. \nRegistration is required via the Montclair Library website.

SUMMARY:Emily Roebling “Bridge Builder in Petticoats” for Children & Families
DESCRIPTION:The New Jersey Council for the Humanities is proud to support the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage’s presentation of “Emily Roebling ‘Bridge Builder in Petticoats’ for Children & Families” on June 17\, 2025. \nEvent Description\nEmily Roebling of New Jersey\, who led the completion of the Brooklyn Bridge\, was an early preservationist of the Wallace House. In 1899\, Mrs. Roebling traveled from Trenton to Somerville for a ceremony “under the ancient oak trees on the great lawn that surrounds the historical house” to celebrate the anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill. \n125 years later Emily Roebling returns to the Wallace House for the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill.  Mrs. Roebling invites children of all ages and families to join a special edition of “Bridge Builder in Petticoats” including storytelling and a bridge building activity and craft. \nCarol Simon Levin of Telling Her Stories portrays Emily Roebling. \nChildren and adults are invited to color or write cards of appreciation to veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces for delivery to New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes in honor of the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Army & Armed Forces. \nThis program is part of a series made possible by the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association\, Proud Partner of Revolution NJ\, with the sponsorship of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities\, state partner of the National Endowment for the Humanities. #njhumanities \nAny views\, findings\, conclusions\, or recommendations expressed in this series do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities or the New Jersey Council for the Humanities. \n⭐ Revolution NJ is New Jersey’s official observance of the 250th anniversaries of New Jersey’s first Constitution July 2\, 2026 and the American Revolution in New Jersey from 2024 – 2033. \nImage credit: Wikimedia / Zeete / CC By 4.0
