SUMMARY:NJ History Day State Contest at William Paterson University
DESCRIPTION:The New Jersey History Day program is an affiliate of National History Day (NHD)\, started in 1974 to promote the teaching and learning of history. Students create original historical projects on topics of their choosing\, inspiring them with a lifelong passion for research and learning. This year\, students are researching topics based on the theme “Rights and Responsibilities in History.” \nDuring the contests\, students present their research in one of five categories: Exhibits\, Performances\, Documentaries\, Websites\, and Papers. Students whose entries are ranked highest by judges at Regional Events advance to the State History Day competition at William Paterson University on Saturday\, May 3\, 2025. \nClick here for more information on NJ History Day \nSeeking Volunteer Judges\nNJHD is seeking volunteer judges for the contest. As a judge\, you and your teammates will help evaluate student entries based on their historical quality and presentation. \nHistory Day judging takes place at each Regional and State contest. Judges can serve at just one contest\, or as many as you like. The judges’ day runs from about 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM\, and includes an orientation\, review of 6-8 student projects\, and time to confer and share responses. Breakfast and lunch are provided. DESCRIPTION:NJCH is proud to support Piscataway Public Library’s “Food for Thought\,” a series of events exploring the cultural and historical significance of food in our lives\, through an Action Grant. \n— \nCelebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with Chef Maricel Gentile! \nJoin us for a special cooking demonstration and cultural talk with Chef Maricel Gentile in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! Chef Maricel will showcase the art of making pancit\, a beloved Filipino noodle dish that holds deep cultural significance. She will share insights into what makes Filipino cuisine unique\, why pancit is central to Filipino food culture\, and the traditions that bring people together around the table. \nAttendees will not only learn how to prepare this iconic dish but will also get to sample authentic Filipino pancit\, freshly made by Chef Maricel. \nAbout Chef Maricel Gentile \nChef Maricel Gentile is the chef and owner of Maricel’s Kitchen in East Brunswick\, NJ\, a culinary destination specializing in Filipino and Asian cuisines. Known for her engaging cooking classes and Chef’s Table dinners\, she has been featured on Food Network\, PBS\, and Hulu\, serves as a Chef Ambassador for K-Seafood\, and is a cookbook author with her newly released Maricel’s Simply Asian Cookbook. SUMMARY:A Novel in 500 Words: Explore the Challenging and Wonderful World of Writing for Children with Jenna Beatrice
DESCRIPTION:NJCH grantee the Mahwah Museum will host “A Novel in 500 Words: Explore the Challenging and Wonderful World of Writing for Children with Jenna Beatrice.” Beatrice will discuss her road to becoming an author of children’s books\, the nature of writing for children\, and how to get books published in today’s environment. \nThe event will be held Thursday\, May 29\, 2025\, 7:30-9:00 pm at the museum. \nAbout the speaker:\nJenna Beatrice is a children’s author\, lawyer\, and mother. Jenna\, a graduate of Mahwah High School\, earned a degree in literature and creative writing from Barnard College\, Columbia University\, and received her law degree from Fordham University School of Law. \nJenna’s debut picture book The Loud Librarian (Atheneum/Simon & Schuster)\, was voted by students across the United States for the Children’s Book Council’s 2024 Favorites Award; named to Mrs. Laura Bush’s 2023 Summer Reading List; selected for the 2024 Redbud Read-Aloud Book Award Masterlist; and featured in The Washington Post. Jenna’s latest picture book\, Annabelle and the Spaghetti-Confetti Surprise (Two Lions)\, was released this year.
