SUMMARY:Books & Reading Community of Practice: Can We Separate the Story from the Storyteller?
DESCRIPTION:NJCH’s Community of Practice for Books & Reading will meet virtually on October 5\, 2026\, from 3:30-4:30 p.m. \nFor this gathering\, we will examine the question: “Can We Separate the Story from the Storyteller?” Is it possible to hold two truths at once — that a person created something beautiful and meaningful\, and that the same person caused harm or held deeply troubling beliefs? \nThe session will revolve partly around a New Yorker magazine interview with John Lithgow in which he discusses his Tony-winning role as Roald Dahl in the Broadway show Giant. Participants will be encouraged to complete this and other readings prior to the session. \nJoin colleagues across the state to discuss topics around literature and literacy in New Jersey. The Books & Reading Community of Practice is open to anyone who works to promote literature and/or literacy…or anyone who just loves books and reading! \nCOP members can log in to see the Zoom information in the COP portal. \nNot a member? No worries! Join the COP (for free)\, then log in to view the Zoom meeting info.

SUMMARY:2026 New Jersey History Conference
DESCRIPTION:Join NJCH and a host of other organizations and individuals from the New Jersey history community on Friday\, October 30th at Kean University for an exciting day exploring New Jersey’s past and building new connections. \nBased on the RevolutionNJ interpretive theme “Revolutionary Ideals\,” the 2026 New Jersey History Conference theme\, “Revolutionary Legacy\,” will explore the American Revolution in New Jersey\, its impact throughout the past 250 years\, and how the history field can capitalize on the momentum of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. \nFeaturing sessions on academic research and public history\, this year’s conference will highlight the latest findings from the field and showcase innovative ways of bringing this history to the public. In addition to the panels\, attendees will have access to networking sessions\, “wandering tours” at Liberty Hall Museum\, and Kean University Galleries and Collections’ exhibit “Unfolding: Early American Accounts from Liberty Hall.” A full agenda of the day’s activities can be found below. \nThe New Jersey History Conference is an annual program that highlights the importance of studying and sharing state and local history by inviting established and emerging scholars\, educators\, public historians\, and a broad spectrum of social science and humanities researchers to present new research that facilitates greater public awareness of New Jersey history. This year’s conference is co-hosted by the New Jersey Historical Commission and RevolutionNJ\, New Jersey’s official 250th commemoration partnership. \nNJ Humanities’ own Gigi Naglak\, director of programs\, is a member of the Conference Committee and will be sharing information about NJCH’s program offerings at the conference. \nGet full information and tickets at Eventbrite
