DESCRIPTION:Past NJCH Grantee the Mahwah Museum will celebrate the Nation’s 250th anniversary year with Nancy B. Kennedy\, whose illustrated talk\, “This Sacred Soil\,” tells the often overlooked story of women in Revolutionary times.  \nReturn to 1776 when New Jersey enacted a surprising Constitution that allowed “all inhabitants” of the colony to vote\, opening the door for some women and free Black people to vote.  \nMeet these suffrage pioneers – some from this area – who went to the polls for 31 years\, until they were stripped of the vote in 1807.  Then\, take a whirlwind tour around the 13 colonies – 12 of which enfranchised only men – and meet women whose brave and selfless acts helped the Patriots win the American Revolution\, despite being denied a voice in our new nation. \nAbout the speaker: Nancy B. Kennedy is the author of eight nonfiction books\, most recently “Women Win the Vote! 19 for the 19th Amendment” (Norton Young Readers). SUMMARY:New Jersey Archival Film Festival
DESCRIPTION:The New Jersey Studies Academic Alliance (NJSAA)\, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Archives Conference (MARAC) New Jersey Caucus\, and the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music (BSCAM) are thrilled to announce the second annual NJ Archival  Film Festival\, a celebration of the stories preserved in the vaults and vital work of New Jersey’s cultural institutions.  \nJoin us at Monmouth University’s Great Hall for a day full of screenings from archives\, historical societies and other institutions across the state. \nParticipate\nNJ archives\, museums\, and collecting institutions are invited to submit short films (up to 10 minutes) held in their collections. Submissions may include—but are not limited to—documentaries\, short films\, performance recordings\, home movies\, and public service films\, and they do not need to relate directly to New Jersey.  \nSubmissions are due September 11.
