SUMMARY:"Growing Up True" Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:The Stoutsburg Sourland African American Museum (SSAAM) will hold a family-friendly celebration of the launch of its first children’s book\, Growing Up True\, on Saturday\, September 20\, from 11am to 1pm. Funded in part by an NJCH grant\, Growing Up True is inspired by the legacy of the True family\, African American landowners\, and farmers in the Sourland Mountain region. SSAAM’s book launch party will bring the story to life with hands-on activities\, creative exploration\, and a chance to meet the team behind the book. \nAt the event\, attendees can hear the book read by various storytellers; do some hands-on arts activities; meet the author\, illustrator\, graphic designer\, and Payne herself; and enjoy cobbler\, made from scratch. This event is designed for children ages 4 and up\, but all are welcome. \nThe ticket price of $30 per family includes cobbler and one copy of the book. Tickets can be reserved through Eventbrite. \nThe book was made possible by grants from NJCH and the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission\, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.

SUMMARY:The Moving Architects Crane House & Historic YWCA Performance Project
DESCRIPTION:The Montclair History Center will host a performance by the Moving Architects as part of a project funded by an NJCH grant. \nThe Moving Architects’ performance project brings the rich history of Montclair’s Crane House & Historic YWCA to life through dance. In partnership with Montclair History Center\, this site-immersive performance weaves dance and music together with the spaces and historical narratives of the building. Audiences are guided through the house and grounds to witness intimate and captivating dance performances by the intergenerational and all-female cast. By engaging deeply with the site’s history and incorporating the diverse voices and stories of those who lived there\, the performance transforms the site into a living celebration of its storied past\, offering audiences a profound and intimate connection to the area’s rich history.
